West Ham United have a deal in place to buy Carabao Cup hero Alphonse Areola from PSG for a set price, and it’s an absolute bargain.

Areola was the star for West Ham as David Moyes’s side beat Man City on penalties to reach the quarter-finals of league cup.

The French World Cup winner has a remarkable record of not conceding a single goal for West Ham in his four appearances so far.

And he made some top class saves – most notably from a John Stones header at point blank range – to help West Ham keep Man City at bay.

It was a man of the match performance but one that will not surprise anyone who watched him star for Fulham last season.

Areola was Fulham’s player of the year. And many Cottagers claim they would have been relegated long before they actually were had it not been for the giant goalkeeper.

West Ham signed Areola on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

And the 28-year-old has proved he has everything needed to be Lukasz Fabianski’s long-term successor at West Ham.

Some Hammers fans have voiced concerns that other clubs could trump West Ham for Areola off the back of his excellent performances.

But supporters will be pleased to know West Ham already have a first option deal in place to make Areola’s move permanent for a bargain £11 million.

The permanent move will also be activated if Areola plays a certain number of games – although it is not clear what that number is.

“The 28-year-old France international joins the Irons on an initial season-long deal, with the option to make the transfer permanent in the summer of 2022,” West Ham said on the club’s official website when they signed the ‘keeper back in July.

Areola is understood to have joined the Hammers for a loan fee in the region of £1.7 million according to French media.

West Ham have an option to make the move permanent next summer with the deal expected to cost between £10.2m and £11m.

There is a brilliant story behind how West Ham came to sign Areola in the summer, which you can read in full here.

It is so refreshing to see West Ham conduct such astute transfer business.

Long may it continue.
