Vice-chair Karren Brady and manager David Moyes react as West Ham United make big announcement on London Stadium plans.

West Ham are set to have the biggest capacity in London.

That’s after finally getting the green light in the next phase of the club’s London Stadium plans.

It has always been West Ham’s grand plan to raise the capacity at the London Stadium to 67,000.

But the club have to do that in incremental stages to meet planning and safety regulations. First they pushed it up to 60,000.

The next step was 62,500 and the ultimate goal is 67,000.

Now West Ham have confirmed plans for a 62,500 capacity have been approved.

And both vice-chair Brady and Hammers boss Moyes have reacted to the news (whufc.com).

“The application to increase the matchday capacity will give an even greater number of our fans the opportunity to watch our exciting team in action in person,” Brady said in a statement on whufc.com.

“Since the regular return of supporters this year, we have seen a terrific response with every Premier League fixture so far this season sold out, and we thank them for their continued fantastic backing including breaking attendance records as part of regular capacity crowds at London Stadium.

“This is another great sign of progression during a hugely-positive time for the Club.”

Moyes said it is another sign that West Ham are growing on and off the pitch.

“Everyone here is doing everything we can to grow and develop this football club, on and off the pitch, for the benefit of our supporters, and we all feel that things are moving in the right direction,” Moyes said.

“The supporters being back has been fantastic and the atmosphere they have created, with 60,000 in the stadium, has been right up there every game.

“Having more fans in here cheering the team on will make it even better for us all and we are really looking forward to welcoming more of our young supporters and families to London Stadium.”

If the club can continue to explore squaring off and somehow moving the east and west stands closer to the pitch then it will make a huge difference.

The London Stadium will never replace Upton Park.

But West Ham fans are slowly coming to terms with their new home.

And restructuring the side stands in line with a proper football ground would go a long way to ironing out some of the big grievances with the stadium.
