West Ham face more competition for 32-capped international free agent, this time from Everton

West Ham face another obstacle in our pursuit of Jesse Lingard with Everton having joined the race to sign the free agent.

That’s according to a report from The Mirror who claim that Everton have now joined Newcastle and the Hammers in the battle for Lingard’s signature.

The 29-year-old is now a free agent after leaving his boyhood club Manchester United earlier this week.

Lingard spent the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan at the London Stadium and was a huge hit with West Ham. David Moyes has been trying to bring him back to the Hammers ever since.

It seems as though Everton are set to challenge the Hammers for the England international’s signature now though. As if Newcastle’s interest wasn’t enough of an inconvenience!

Everton to battle West Ham for free agent

The Mirror reckons that Everton boss Frank Lampard wants to bring Jesse Lingard to Goodison Park this summer.

Now, if it’s a straight choice between the Hammers and the Toffees, there will surely be only one outcome.

Jesse loved his time at West Ham. The fans loved him and so did the Hammers players. We have European football on offer at the London Stadium as well whilst Everton struggled to avoid relegation last season.

Lingard would be a fine addition to David Moyes’s ranks.

Moyes absolutely loves the attacking midfielder and recently described him as an ‘incredible’ player (Claret and Hugh). Mark Noble was impressed too, and labelled Lingard as ‘phenomenal’ (Daily Mail).

The Scot cannot afford to waste a whole summer chasing Jesse again though.

The 29-year-old either wants to come back to West Ham or he doesn’t. If he needs convincing, let’s just move on and let him join Everton or Newcastle.

The Hammers should not be going back to the days when we used to sign mercenaries. Look where that strategy got us!

West Ham and Everton would both improve by signing Lingard as a free agent. He’s not worth wasting our summer on though. Let’s hope that Moyes moves efficiently and signs Jesse quickly.

And if that doesn’t happen, there are plenty more fish in the sea!
