West Ham United could be in line for a real bonus this summer, with a Championship star being lined up for a big transfer.

Julen Lopetegui still has a lot of business to complete at West Ham before the summer transfer window slams shut on Friday.

The West Ham fans are buzzing with excitement about what the future holds for us, and the Hammers boss has insisted that he’s after even more new signings.

However, in order for that to be a reality, the Spaniard needs to get rid of some of the fringe players on huge salaries.

That is proving to be problematic right now, with many of our high earners refusing to budge from their comfortable salaries.

So with that in mind, the news that we could be in line to receive some cash from a completely different source has come at a very good time indeed…

Pierre Ekwah could help out West Ham

Pierre Ekwah left the Hammers to join Sunderland way back in January 2023.

The young Frenchman actually did really well for our under-21s before he left to join the Wearside outfit, so it was somewhat of a surprise when he left.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio raved about Pierre Ekwah after the midfielder left the London Stadium, and he has proven to be a fine addition for Sunderland.

However, the 22-year-old is already being linked with a move away from the Stadium of Light.

Amidst those links, Sunderland are demanding £6 million for the young French midfielder (Sunderland Echo).

Udinese were interested in Ekwah, while Crystal Palace, Fulham and now Saint-Etienne have all been linked with signing the former Hammer.

And the powers that be at the London Stadium will be praying that the midfielder joins one of those clubs mentioned before Friday’s deadline.

West Ham could receive £2.1m Pierre Ekwah bonus

So it seems like the Hammers could be in the money, at just the right time.

Claret and Hugh have claimed that the Hammers included a 35% sell-on clause in the deal that saw the 22-year-old move to the Stadium of Light last year.

So if he does leave Sunderland for £6 million, West Ham would receive a £2.1 million payment from the Black Cats.

The Hammers really need that kind of cash right now, with Julen Lopetegui looking to bring in one or two more players before the transfer window slams shut.

When West Ham allowed Pierre Ekwah to join Sunderland for nothing 18 months ago, it looked like a really bad deal from us.

However, if he leaves the Black Cats for £6 million or more this summer, David Sullivan will be laughing.
