Wes Brown sticks his oar in over Manchester United move for West Ham star Declan Rice

Wes Brown is the latest Red Devil to stick his oar in over a Manchester United move for West Ham star Declan Rice.

West Ham’s talismanic midfielder has established himself as one of – if not the – best all round midfielders in Europe over the last two years for club and country.

When West Ham fans heard Rice was going to be interviewed for Gary Neville’s The Overlap, they feared it would only serve to add to the incessant stream of stories linking their star man with a move away.

My Europa League Predictions.

Top players make headlines and that has certainly been the case for West Ham star Rice over the last couple of years.

The midfielder has been linked with Chelsea for a number of years having left the Blues for West Ham when he was released as a 14-year-old.

But for West Ham fans one week it’s Chelsea being linked, the next week it’s Manchester City.

And when Man United’s midfield have a bad game – which is pretty frequently right now – the inevitable Rice links emerge.

There’s even a smattering of Liverpool every now and again too.

Hammers fans are not daft, though. We can see a clear pattern emerging regarding a concerted effort by influential former Man United players with regards a move to unsettle and lure Rice to Old Trafford.

Whether it is Rio Ferdinand pushing for Rice to leave the club that gave him his head in professional football for the one that provided the silverware.

Or Neville and his pointed questions on The Overlap.

Well now another former Man United star, Wes Brown has stuck his oar in over a Manchester United move for Rice.

And the charm offensive continues unabated it seems.

“I love Declan Rice,” Brown told 888sport as also quoted by the likes of The Metro.

“I look at him and he reminds me of an old-school player because he knows his job and position and knows what to do.

“He works hard and he doesn’t need to be a tactical genius or do fancy tricks, he just knows his job and he does it very well at West Ham.

“He just gets it and he would very definitely benefit Man United. A lot of people say he is not this or that or flamboyant. He doesn’t need to be.”

Many West Ham fans are resigned to the fact Rice will look to leave the club in the near future after declaring on The Overlap that he wants to win ‘all the top trophies’.

And supporters feel the club’s lack of true ambition in January – with a Champions League spot seriously up for grabs – effectively signed Rice’s West Ham goodbye card.
