Fabrizio Romano has provided a lengthy update on the future of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes while clarifying suggestions of a bidding war between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

Hammers News are pretty confident that Tottenham will not succeed in raiding the Hammers for a second summer in succession, having signed Mohammed Kudus twelve months ago.

Manchester United remains Fernandes’ dream destination, and talks between the Red Devils and West Ham United are continuing.

How would you feel about selling Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham? 👀

It would feel so wrong seeing him in a Spurs shirt 😬

Yet, this has not stopped Spurs from trying.

Manchester United and Tottenham vying for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes

Fabrizio Romano, via his official YouTube channel, explains the ‘situation’ surrounding Mateus Fernandes. From Tottenham’s interest, Spurs’ alternative pursuit of Sandro Tonali, the latest developments at Real Madrid and how Man United’s pursuit ties into that of Crysencio Summerville.

“Tottenham are working on a deal for Sandro Tonali,” says Romano, the Newcastle dynamo now seemingly Spurs’ top priority. “Tottenham are aware of the player being open to joining.

“As of today, as we are entering into the weekend, I keep telling you; Sandro Tonali and Tottenham. Tottenham and Sandro Tonali; wanted by Roberto De Zerbi, in talks.

“Then, more to mention after this Tonali story is Mateus Fernandes because, in this situation, there are two clubs pushing from England and an idea from Spain.”

Real Madrid move seems unlikely as Spurs pursue Sandro Tonali

Those three clubs being Man United, Tottenham and Real Madrid.

“He’s an idea for Real Madrid because Mateus Fernandes is Portuguese, and Jose Mourinho indicated his name as one of the options considered in midfield by Real Madrid,” Romano adds having already indicated that the Spanish giants will need to sell Aurelien Tchouameni or Eduardo Camavinga before they can consider a bid for the £80 million-rated Portugal international.

“Mateus Fernandes is a name mentioned by Jose Mourinho ten days ago in that meeting with the most important people in the Real Madrid management team.

What would you say if Amanda Staveley BOUGHT West Ham?

Staveley and Kretinsky could be quite the team… 📝 💰

Amanda Staveley, Director of Newcastle United acknowledges the fans following their side's victory in the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Arsenal at St. James Park on May 16, 2022 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

“But from England, the clubs are way more aggressive financially. They want to do the deal as soon as possible. My understanding is that Manchester United are pushing in talks with the agent of the player, and are also pushing in talks with West Ham to try to find a solution. So, Manchester United are on it.

“They also have an interest in Crysencio Summerville, the winger from West Ham. So, Man United keep asking about Summerville and keep working on a deal for Mateus Fernandes.

“Tottenham, in a separate story from Tonali, are in conversations with the agent of Mateus Fernandes. Tottenham made direct contact with the agent of the player, and so Tottenham have an interest in Mateus Fernandes.

“Now, let’s see what’s going to happen because Tottenham are calling, and Manchester United are negotiating. Tottenham are very focused on Sandro, but as I told you, Mateus Fernandes is a separate story.

“So, that’s the situation as of now. And then don’t forget that Manchester United are also calling for Crysencio Summerville over the recent days and weeks.”

It has also been reported that Man United will need to find a buyer for Marcus Rashford before they can step up their interest in Summerville. That may be easier said than done, given that Rashford earns a staggering £300,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

As things stand, West Ham value Summerville at around £50 million. They are also refusing to budge on their £80 million valuation of Fernandes. Man United seem likely to pursue a deal worth over £60 million initially, with the remainder of the fee to made up of add-ons and bonuses.

Hammers News have been told that the Red Devils are not averse to the idea of stumping up an overall package of £80 million.
