Striker development for West Ham will delight fans as new Danny Ings reports emerge

There’s been a striker development for West Ham which will delight fans as new Danny Ings reports emerge ahead of the January window.

There’s only one thing more difficult than signing a top quality striker and that’s offloading an average one.

West Ham know that perhaps better than most having signed 53 strikers since David Sullivan and the late David Gold took over 13 years ago.

Not all have been flops of course but the latest two – Gianluca Scamacca and Danny Ings – certainly fit into that category for the Hammers.

While supporters were somewhat divided on the sale of Scamacca after just one season with West Ham, the majority feel the same way about Ings.

Moyes told Ferdinand he wants a striker

The Irons paid Aston Villa £15m for the ageing striker last January.

And it is safe to say the move simply has not worked for West Ham or the player. Most supporters want to see the forward sold and are frustrated whenever he comes on in games.

As Hammers News reported via our top source inside the club recently, West Ham must offload fringe players such as Ings to make space in the squad and satisfy FFP rules on wages-to-turnover if they want to make signings when the January window opens next week.

David Moyes told Les Ferdinand after the win at Spurs that he is looking to sign a striker.

Striker development for West Ham will delight fans

The problem, as mentioned earlier in this article, is that selling players like Ings is not always easy.

But a striker development for West Ham will delight fans as new Ings reports emerge.

Because GiveMeSport’s “transfer insider” Dean Jones says a battle is emerging between Burnley and Southampton for Ings.

That can only be good news for West Ham.

Because previous reports claiming Ings could return to Southampton in January stated it would most likely only be on loan.

Jones has confirmed that would be the case.

New Ings reports emerge

But his claims that Premier League Burnley – another of Ings’ former clubs – want to sign him to help their fight against relegation change the landscape.

I think the links with Burnley do make some sense because that is the level of club I’ve been expecting to show interest in him,” Jones said.

But outside of that, I think signing Ings on loan would be about as good as any club in the Championship could hope for in a January window. I know that West Ham are open-minded about Ings leaving in January. So, let’s see. This could become feasible if Saints are serious about trying to chase Ings.”

Hammers News suggested desperate relegation-threatened sides or Championship promotion chasers could come to the rescue for Ings and West Ham in January.

If the Hammers could recoup just £5-7m of their £15m outlay that would be good business.

And it would also get Ings’ £100k plus monthly salary off the wage bill.
