West Ham want to sign Manchester City defender Nathan Ake in January according to an exclusive report from 90 Min.

Manchester City signed the 26-year-old centre-back from Bournemouth for around £40 million back in 2020 (BBC).

The Dutchman has not featured regularly for Pep Guardiola, however, since moving to the Etihad. Ake has made just 12 Premier League starts for Man City.

And with West Ham boss David Moyes thought to be keen to bring a new centre-back to the London Stadium after Angelo Ogbonna was ruled out for the season, it seems as though Ake could be on the Hammers’ radar.

Manchester City ace Nathan Ake a target for West Ham

90 Min reckon that the Holland international has emerged as a transfer target for the Hammers.

With Ogbonna out injured for the season, Moyes is allegedly determined to bring in a new central defender in January.

Signing a top-class striker should be the West Ham manager’s priority, but the addition of a high quality centre-back would not go a miss either.

And the links with the Manchester City star seem to make sense.

Ake has a key attribute that the Scot is attracted to – the fact that he is left-footed.

Standing at just 5ft 11 in, the former Chelsea ace is far from dominant in the air but he is quick along the ground.

Ake is a very strong tackler and has impressive positional awareness.

The 26-year-old is a very good Premier League defender and we think he’d be a very good addition to Moyes’s squad at the London Stadium.

Whether Man City would be willing to sell Ake in. January remains to be seen. It is suggested that the Hammers will pursue a loan deal in January with an obligation to buy in the summer.

It is also claimed that West Ham are hoping to utilise the relationship head of recruitment Rob Newman has with City after his 13-year spell at the club.

Ake would be a very smart addition for the Hammers and he would be linking up with his former Chelsea teammate Kurt Zouma.

Let’s hope that Moyes manages to get this one done.
