Rob Newman has clear West Ham transfer plan in two key areas to help David Moyes summer rebuild

Hammers head of recruitment Rob Newman has a clear West Ham transfer plan in two key areas to help David Moyes in his summer rebuild.

West Ham are fighting on three fronts during the season run in. So Hammers fans were understandably angry when a squad clearly lacking in key areas was not added to in the January transfer window.

With Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky and new head of recruitment Newman on board earlier this season, hopes were high.

Moyes must now muddle through with what he has, though.

Whatever happens in the remainder of the season for West Ham, Moyes is facing a massive summer rebuild.

The Hammers have the Premier League’s second oldest squad and a host of players out of contract, retiring or clearly not in the manager’s plans.

As many as 10 players will be departing while fans will also point to the fact a striker, left-back and centre-back are needed even before Moyes contemplates replacing those.

It is a sizeable rebuild and given West Ham struggled to find a single player in January, bringing in between 10-12 or more looks a mammoth task.

But Newman has a clear transfer plan in two key areas which will help Moyes in his summer rebuild.

That’s according to an inside source at Newman’s old club Man City as quoted by Claret and Hugh.

The site says fans should ‘pay close attention to rumours out of Spain and Portugal’ ahead of the summer window because they are the two key areas Newman looks to for players.

“A top (Man) City insider has told Claret and Hugh that Newman specialises in running the rule over players from the two European nations,” Claret and Hugh state.

“It means that he has had a role in City signing the likes of Rodri, Aymeric Laporte, David Silva and Yaya Toure during his time with the club…

“Newman will be casting his net far and wide, of course, but we have been told to expect movement from both Spain and Portugal as Newman dusts off his contacts book to strengthen the squad.”

Whatever the talk is ahead of the summer window West Ham fans certainly won’t be getting their hopes up.

As far as most supporters are concerned January was a massive opportunity missed by the club.

And some supporters believe the lack of true ambition will lead to the likes of Declan Rice leaving this summer.

That remains to be seen but West Ham fans will demand to see less talk and more action in the summer window after all the hot air of January.

The verdict may have been passed long ago on David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady. But the jury is seriously out on both Kretinsky and Newman this summer.
