West Ham are ready to offer Dan-Axel Zagadou a large package in order to tempt him to move to the London Stadium this summer.
That’s according to a report from Italian publication Gazzetta dello Sport who claim that Roma and Manchester united want to sign the 23-year-old as well.
West Ham boss David Moyes has been persistently linked with a move to bring Zagadou to the club (Calcio Mercato Web).
Moyes desperately needs to sign a top-class centre-back…and fast.
Issa Diop has been sold to Fulham whilst Nayef Aguerd is out injured. Meanwhile, Angelo Ogbonna is nowhere near match fit.
And it seems as though Moyes is ready to make a move for a truly elite defender…
West Ham ready to splash the cash on Zagadou
Gazzetta dello Sport claims that the Hammers are willing to offer ‘a lot of funds’ to put them in pole position for Zagadou’s signature.
He’s available on a free transfer this summer so that presumably means in wages, signing on fee and perhaps agent fees as well.
Hopefully the Hammers manage to win the race for his services – he’s such a good centre-back.
He only made 15 Bundesliga appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season but don’t let that fool you, he really is an exceptional defender.
BVB’s official website describe the centre-back as an ‘incredible’ player.
Standing at 6ft 6in tall, Zagadou is strong in the air but he is also quick along the ground.
The Dortmund ace is very good with the ball at his feet as well. In 15 league appearances last season he made an average of 60.2 passes per game and registered an incredibly impressive 88.2% completion rate (Who Scored).
He’s left footed as well – a crucial attribute for any defender David Moyes brings in this summer because it means that he can play at left-back if need be as well.
There is one huge red flag for West Ham to take note of though…the 22-year-old’s horrendous record with injuries.
Since 2018, Zagadou has missed 563 days of action through injury (Transfermarkt). Most of his problems have been with his knee and he recently underwent surgery to fix that particular issue.
His availability on a free transfer means that he will be a low-risk signing for the Hammers though, in spite of his recent injury problems.
We would absolutely love to see Moyes bring Zagadou to West Ham this summer.
