Report makes big claim about West Ham and Nikola Milenkovic ahead of the summer transfer window

West Ham United are allegedly leading the race to sign Fiorentina centre-back Nikola Milenkovic in the summer.

That’s according to a report from Corriere Fiorentino (print edition April 7th, page 11) who claim that Hammers boss David Moyes is ‘spearheading’ a charge to bring the Serbian defender to the London Stadium.

Central defence is certainly an area where Moyes needs to bolster in the summer transfer window.

Angelo Ogbonna is still out with an ACL injury and he will be 34 before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Craig Dawson will soon be 34 whilst Issa Diop seemingly faces a bleak future at the London Stadium.

And Nikola Milenkovic has been someone who West Ham have been trying to sign since last summer (Calciomercato.it). The Hammers missed out on the 24-year-old centre-back then but we seemingly will have another bite at the cherry before the start of next season…

West Ham eyeing summer Milenkovic swoop

Corriere Fiorentino reckon that the Hammers are out in front in the race for the Fiorentina centre-back’s signature in the summer transfer window.

We believe that Milenkovic would be a hugely exciting addition to Moyes’s ranks at West Ham.

The Serb has been magnificent for La Viola this season. Described as an ‘extraordinary defender’ by x-sport news, Milenkovic is a truly elite centre-back.

In 26 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina this term, the 24-year-old has averaged 1.8 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and three clearances per match. He has also won an average of 3.2 aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

Milenkovic is very comfortable with the ball at his feet as well. During his 26 league outings this season, he has made 60.3 passes on average per game and has recorded an incredibly impressive completion rate of 90.4% (Who Scored).

The Serbian was available for around £13 million according to Italian website Calciomercato.it.

What an unbelievable bargain that would be for West Ham. The prospect of Milenkovic lining up alongside Kurt Zouma for the next six or seven years should be a seriously exciting one for the Hammers fans.

Hopefully West Ham get the signing of Milenkovic wrapped up as soon as the transfer window opens in the summer.
