Report: Key David Moyes target is demanding to be made West Ham’s highest paid player

Jesse Lingard is demanding a whopping £150k-a-week from West Ham United ahead of a possible summer transfer to the London Stadium.

That’s according to a report from The Daily Mail who claim that the Hammers have reservations about paying the 29-year-old that much money.

Lingard spent a hugely successful four-month loan spell at the London Stadium during the second half of the 2020/21 season and he helped take our attacking play to a whole new level entirely.

However, Jesse is now 18 months older than he was when Moyes signed him and there are huge questions marks as to whether he still has the hunger to succeed as he did back then.

We’re not against Moyes re-signing Lingard. In fact, we think he would be a very good addition to Moyes’s ranks at the London Stadium. The Scot absolutely cannot waste time chasing the 29-year-old all summer though. Either he wants to join us or he doesn’t.

And judging by his latest alleged demands, it could be a very long summer…

Jesse Lingard demanding a huge salary from West Ham

The Daily Mail claim that the 29-year-old is asking for a £150k-a-week salary from the Hammers.

That would see him comfortably eclipse Kurt Zouma as West Ham’s highest earner by around £30k-a-week (Spotrac).

Lingard is available on a free transfer but in my opinion, we shouldn’t be offering him anywhere near that kind of salary.

It would obviously lead to other players demanding pay-rises and the quite simply wouldn’t be sustainable for the Hammers.

It would be great to have Jesse back at the club but as mentioned earlier, he either wants to come back or he doesn’t.

Considering this wage demands, it would be fair to surmise that he isn’t actually that keen to come back to the London Stadium.

Jesse Lingard demanding £150k-a-week from West Ham is fair enough from his point of view. It will be his last big contract after all.

The Hammers shouldn’t buckle to those demands though. Either Jesse accepts a lower wage or Moyes moves on to alternative transfer targets. It really should be that simple.
