West Ham are close to signing Jan Bednarek from Southampton on what has been a hectic transfer deadline day.

That’s according to a report from Sky Sports who claim that Southampton are closing in on a deal to sign Duje Caleta-Car from Marseille as a replacement for Bednarek.

David Moyes has been a really busy man in the transfer market already this summer.

The Scot has signed eight new players so far, including two centre-backs, a defensive midfielder, a left winger, a centre-forward, a midfield play-maker, a left wing-back and a goalkeeper.

However, it seems as though Moyes is far from finished in his player recruitment, with deadline day now upon us. And another centre-back could be London Stadium bound…

West Ham close in on Jan Bednarek signing

Sky Sports reckon that the Hammers are on the verge of signing the Southampton ace.

Now, we think that the 26-year-old could be a decent signing for West Ham.

He was in the top 10 in the Premier League for both interceptions and clearances last season (Premier League’s official website).

In 31 Premier league appearances last term, Bednarek averaged one tackle, 2.3 interceptions, 4.5 clearances and 2.9 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

During those outings, he made 46.6 passes on average per match and recorded a completion rate of 81.7% (Who Scored).

He has been described as a ‘brick wall’ by The Athletic. Meanwhile, BT Sport have labelled the 42-capped Poland international as ‘outstanding’.

Moyes is fairly well covered in the centre-back department. With Angelo Ogbonna now 34 and and Craig Dawson set to leave though, the addition of another younger central defender may not be a bad thing.

And if West Ham manage to sign Jan Bednarek today, we think that will be a very good thing for the East London outfit.
