Opinion: Losing Sonny Perkins to Tottenham would be a real gutter for West Ham

Losing talented youngster Sonny Perkins to Tottenham this summer would be an absolute gutter for West Ham United.

Tottenham are keen to bring the 18-year-old to north London in the summer transfer window according to a report from The Guardian.

Perkins is allegedly out of contract at the London Stadium at the end of this month and West Ham are refusing to meet his wage demands (The Guardian).

The talented teenager burst onto the scene with the Hammers this season and it’s little wonder why Tottenham might be interested in signing him.

The Hackney-born ace can actually play anywhere along the front-line and possesses exceptional technique. When he grows in stature and fills out, he could become a truly brilliant forward in the Premier League.

It seems as though Perkins could be plying his trade in a different part of London next season though…

West Ham may lose Sonny Perkins to Tottenham

The Guardian reckon that Spurs want to sign the 18-year-old Hammers attacker this summer.

And if the forward doesn’t commit to a new deal at the London Stadium, he will be free to move where he wants.

West Ham will be due some kind of compensation due to the fact that Perkins is under the age of 21 but that won’t really soften he blow, if we do indeed lose Sonny to Tottenham.

Perkins was sensational for the West Ham U-23s this season. He bagged 14 goals and two assists in 28 games for the youth team (Transfermarkt).

The 18-year-old made three senior appearances for the Hammers as well.

David Moyes gave him a big chance in the Premier League once and Europe twice. So the Scot clearly rates Perkins.

Rising East recently described the attacker as a ‘remarkable’ young talent.

The thing is though, West Ham are right not to be held to ransom by the 18-year-old. The same thing happened with Reece Oxford.

Perkins hasn’t done anything to prove himself at the highest level of the game yet, despite his undoubted prowess and precocious talent.

It will be a shame if the forward doesn’t sign a new deal at the London Stadium. And losing Sonny Perkins to Tottenham would be a real gutter for West Ham.

There might not be anything that we can do about it though…
