Newcastle United could be ready to hijack West Ham United’s move to sign Stuttgart left-back Borna Sosa this summer.

That’s according to a report from Croatian outlet Index who claim that Newcastle are trying to sign the 24-year-old despite the fact that the Hammers are closing in on a £17 million deal for the Stuttgart ace.

Reports emerged yesterday that Hammers boss David Moyes is close to bringing the six-capped Croatia international to the London Stadium.

Signing a top-class left-back to replace Aaron Cresswell will be an absolutely must for Moyes this summer. Sosa would be the perfect summer signing for West Ham but it seems as though Newcastle could once again try to scupper our plans.

The good news is that the Hammers have already beat the Toon to the signings of Nayef Aguerd and Alphonse Areola.

Still, Newcastle’s interest in signing the 24-year-old is an unwelcome inconvenience for West Ham…

Index reckon that the Magpies could try to pip the Hammers to the signing of the Croatian this summer.

West Ham just need to get this one done asap. At least we can offer the Stuttgart star European football – something that Newcastle cannot do of course.

We’d love to see the Croatian at the London Stadium this summer.

The Croatia international is a top-class left-back and can also operate as a left wing-back. He is incredibly quick. In fact, he recently told the Bundesliga’s official website that he has been the fastest player in every single team he has ever played for:

“As far as I can remember, my strengths have always been my speed and a good left foot. Not just crosses but in general. Passing, shooting, free kicks, corners, et cetera. Regardless of which team I played in, I was the fastest in testing. This is also the case here in Stuttgart. So I would single out these things as my strengths.”

In 28 Bundesliga outings last season, Sosa bagged one goal and eight assists. During those appearances, the 24-year-old averaged 0.8 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 2 clearances per game (Who Scored).

He possesses a wicked delivery as well. Breaking The Lines describe his crossing ability as ‘world-class’.

The Stuttgart ace has bags of energy and is just as much of a weapon in the final third as he is defensively.

Signing Borna Sosa for just £17 million would be sensational business for West Ham this summer.

Whether the Hammers manage to beat Newcastle to his signature remains to be seen though.
