Liverpool are allegedly ready to join Chelsea in the race to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice in the summer.
That’s according to football journalist Si Phillips who claims that Chelsea would be Rice’s preferred destination, should offers be made for his signature, but Liverpool are ‘very interested’ in signing him as well.
Liverpool and Chelsea managers Jurgen Klopp and Graham Potter are both eyeing a top-class central midfield reinforcement next summer, in order to improve the spines of their teams.
And it’s easy to see why Rice might be an option for either the Reds or the Blues.

And it seems as though Liverpool and Chelsea are both very keen to sign Declan Rice…
Declan Rice a target for Liverpool and Chelsea
The Blues’ interest in the 23-year-old has been well known for quite some time now.
But it seems as though the West London outfit now face competition for the powerful midfielder.
Football journalist Si Phillips has claimed that Liverpool are very interested in challenging Chelsea for Declan Rice, although Stamford Bridge would be his preferred destination:
Liverpool are very interested in signing Declan Rice next summer. Chelsea of course remain keen as well, but Liverpool could be about to enter the race to sign the England midfielder. He would always choose Chelsea over any other club if the offer is on the table from multiple clubs.
Rice, who earns £60k-a-week at the London Stadium (Capology), is absolutely vital to this Hammers team, and David Moyes’s main priority should be to keep the 23-year-old at the club.
In fairness to him, he does seem to be very happy at the London Stadium at the moment.
He is club captain and has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.
The 23-year-old is one of the very best players in world football in his specific position.
The Evening Standard recently described Dec as ‘world-class’.
Moyes rates him very highly, obviously. And the Hammers value the central midfielder at around £150 million (The Athletic).

If we are to have any chance whatsoever of keeping Dec at the London Stadium, the owners must continue to match his ambition off the pitch.
And Moyes has to build a winning team on the pitch.
The problem for West Ham is that if either Liverpool or Chelsea do come in with a formal offer north of £100 million for Declan Rice in the summer, it may well be really hard for the club and the player to reject their advances.
The Hammers hopes of achieving success over the next few years depend heavily on our ability to keep the 23-year-old.
With Liverpool and Chelsea chasing Declan Rice though, that may well be mission impossible for the East London outfit.
