Ligue 1 striker Jonathan David has given West Ham and Arsenal huge encouragement over a January move with new comments.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year, well for football agents it is anyway as the January window officially opens.
West Ham and Arsenal have been in direct competition with one another over the last couple of seasons.
But this January David Moyes and Mikel Arteta have very different objectives as West Ham and Arsenal head into the second half of the season.
Arsenal are of course looking to bring in players who can help maintain their surprise title bid.
Meanwhile West Ham have been sleepwalking into a potential relegation battle, finding themselves outside the relegation zone by virtue of goal difference alone.
Both the Hammers and Gunners have been linked with new forwards in January.
With Gabriel Jesus out for another two months Arteta is said to be keen to strengthen Arsenal’s attack.
West Ham have scored a paltry 13 goals all season – the third worst in the top flight.
One striker heavily linked with both clubs in recent windows is Lille ace Jonathan David.
The Hammers have been heavily linked with Canada star David. And it has previously been reported that the player likes the idea of joining West Ham (Calcio Mercato).
The Evening Standard has previously claimed Arteta is a big fan of David and has been tracking his progress at Lille, where he has scored 41 goals in 112 games.
Now Ligue 1 striker David has given West Ham and Arsenal huge encouragement over a January move with new comments.
Speaking in an interview with La Voix du Nord, the 22-year-old admitted he can see himself leaving Lille and only has eyes for the Premier League.
“I don’t know, I think it’s possible, very possible (to leave Lille in the transfer window),” the alleged West Ham and Arsenal target told La Voix du Nord.
“I don’t know if I can see myself anywhere other than the Premier League.
“It could well be the Premier League.”
Signing a player like David would completely revolutionise West Ham’s static attack.
The Hammers may have the edge given they could more or less offer David a place as a guaranteed starter.
That would not be the case at Arsenal, especially when Jesus returns.
But obviously the Gunners have the added attraction of being a club going places under Arteta and with Champions League football to offer next season and a Premier League winners medal dangling as a carrot.
