Just when West Ham fans thought things couldn’t get much worse along comes an unwelcome Danny Ings twist.

It has not been the best of starts to the new year for West Ham.

But for many of the club’s supporters it could get even worse.

West Ham are looking to offload players as they seek to make signings in the January transfer window.

Not only to clear space in the squad and raise funds but also to satisfy FFP rules after hitting their limit on wages-to-turnover.

The work to ship players out is already underway with the departure of Thilo Kehrer to Monaco in a deal which will eventually see the Hammers recoup most of their original £10.5m outlay.

Injuries could mean no striker sign-Ings

The spate of injuries to crucial starters and the loss of Mohammed Kudus to AFCON has placed new emphasis on the need to bolster David Moyes’ squad of late.

Even West Ham’s prime transfer targets are dropping like flies too after some breaking news earlier today.

With the focus on getting players out of the door first, journalist Jacob Steinberg has claimed Moyes is happy to let four signings who cost the club £94m leave.

One of those is flop striker Danny Ings.

In fact moving the likes of Ings on is imperative in West Ham being able to bring in a new forward more suited to Moyes’ style and system.

Just when fans thought things couldn’t get much worse

But just when West Ham fans thought things couldn’t get much worse a new report makes a big claim about Ings.

Ings was always a questionable signing from the very start when he arrived from Aston Villa for £15m this time last year.

He was never going to fit into a Moyes side. And while his performances have often left a lot to be desired, Ings cannot shoulder all of the blame.

The striker has been linked with Everton, Wolves and his former clubs Burnley and Southampton.

But The Evening Standard claims Ings’ departure from West Ham has been ‘put on hold’ due to the glut of injuries.

Forward doesn’t fit in Moyes’ side

It’s bad news for the player who clearly needs to play in a different setup and under a different manager.

For West Ham fans it’s the worst possible news to round off a week full of it.

Not only because they will have to suffer watching Moyes continue to try and put a square peg in a round hole. But also because it directly impacts West Ham’s ability to bring in the forward supporters and observers feel they sorely need.

Not only that but many hoped he might be used as a makeweight in a move to sign Wolves captain Max Kilman.

Moyes talked Ings up after his substitute cameo in the draw with Bristol City. But the fact is if the manager did really rate the 100k per week striker then he would have come on instead of Divin Mubama after Lucas Paqueta’s early injury.

Let’s hope for some good news on the Bowen and Paqueta knocks so Ings can be moved on.

For his sake and West Ham’s.
