Jacob Steinberg claims there is intrigue at West Ham United regarding a potential move to sign 30-year-old attacker this summer.

West Ham manager David Moyes still has a lot of work to do in the summer transfer window, if he is to guide his side to a successful 2023/24 campaign on all fronts.

The Hammers have already signed Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse, but that simply won’t be enough.

West Ham need another midfielder, a striker, a centre-back, a left-back and a pacy winger at the very least.

One particular rumour that has emerged claims that the Hammers could make a shock move to re-sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer.

And it has now been claimed that there is a feeling within the club that the 30-year-old could come back to the London Stadium…

Jacob Steinberg: ‘Intrigue’ at West Ham regarding potential move to sign 30-yo attacker

The Guardian journalist has claimed that there is a small chance that the Hammers could re-sign Lingard on a short-term deal this summer.

I have to say, I really don’t want Jesse anywhere near the London Stadium again.

He spent half a season on loan with us during the 2020/21 campaign and was a real hit, bagging nine goals in just 16 Premier League games.

However, when that season finished he returned to Manchester United and spent most of the campaign warming the bench.

West Ham were then heavily linked with the 30-year-old once again in the summer of 2022, but he chose to join Nottingham Forest instead after incessantly flirting with the idea of a Hammers return on social media.

Lingard was incredibly poor for Forest last season and now he’s a free agent. I worry that his only motivation will be one more big contract, rather than proving that he still has what it takes to succeed at the very highest level.

With Jacob Steinberg claiming that there’s a chance he could return to West Ham though, it certainly won’t be a shock if Moyes brings him back to East London this summer.
