Ian Wright makes Tammy Abraham claim that proves West Ham made a massive mistake

Ian Wright has absolutely raved about Tammy Abraham and his comments have highlighted just how big of a trick West Ham missed last summer.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately tried to add a top-class striker to his ranks before the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

One centre-forward in particular on West Ham’s radar was Tammy Abraham according to the likes of The Daily Mail and Football.London.

The 24-year-old ended up joining Roma from Chelsea, however, with the Hammers reluctant to meet his £34 million price-tag (BBC).

At the time, it seemed like a baffling decision from West Ham. Tammy would have been ideally suited to the way in which we play. And don’t forget, he actually wanted to move to the London Stadium according to a report from The Mirror.

Abraham is big and strong, is exceptionally athletic and has pace in abundance. He is also a very good finisher. It it clear to see that West Ham should have gone all out to sign him last summer.

Ian Wright raves about Tammy Abraham

The ex-Arsenal striker knows a thing or two about putting the ball in the back of the net.

So when he talks about finishing, everyone should listen.

Ian Wright highlighted how Arsenal should have signed Tammy Abraham last summer, when speaking on Wrighty’s House podcast, but in essence, the same can be applied for West Ham:

“Tammy has the hunger to finish the chances that Arsenal are not finishing right now. They are making chances but someone is not in there taking them. Tammy is at that stage now where he would be in there gobbling all that up. He’s ready now. Absolutely. He’s gone to Roma and it’s a massive club and he’s the main man, he was from the first game.”

The 24-year-old has proven to be an exceptional addition for AS Roma. He has bagged 23 goals and four assists in 40 games for the Serie A giants so far (Transfermarkt).

Whoever made the final call on not signing Tammy Abraham for West Ham has made a huge error.

Wright’s comments prove just how good he would have been for us. Abraham would have easily scored 20 goals in this Hammers side.

It shouldn’t have been a question of money either. West Ham spent over £33 million on Nikola Vlasic in the summer transfer window after all (Evening Standard).

Missing out on the 24-year-old striker was a massive error. Let’s hope that West Ham make up for that mistake this summer though by signing a truly elite centre-forward.
