West Ham made a huge error by rejecting the chance to sign a superstar currently plying his trade in Italy with Serie A leaders Napoli.

Kim Min-jae joined Napoli from Fenerbahce for around £16 million in the summer of 2022 (Daily Mail), whilst West Ham United missed out on the centre-back.

West Ham boss David Moyes brought Nayef Aguerd to the London Stadium instead of the 26-year-old defender.

However, it’s a real shame that the Hammers didn’t sign Kim Min-jae a few years earlier. Fenerbahce picked him up for just £2.5 million in 2021 from Chinese Super League outfit BJ Guoan (Transfermarkt).

The South Korean has been a huge hit in Naples, forming the cornerstone of a Napoli defence that has conceded just 16 goals in 27 Serie A games this season – fewer than any other team in the division.

How the Hammers could have done with someone like the 26-year-old in the Premier League this season…

West Ham made a huge error

The Hammers seemingly had the chance to sign Napoli centre-back Kim Min-jae before he joined Fenerbahce two years ago.

When Speaking on his YouTube channel, football journalist Jacque Talbot claimed Hammers boss Moyes rejected the chance to sign the 26-year-old because he thought that it represented a risk:

“They signed him from Fenerbahce for £15m, and do you know what actually. I got a message from an agent, should I say this? Anyway, David Moyes had an interest in him back when he was in the Chinese Super League but they thought it was too big of a gamble coming from a market they had no knowledge of, maybe I shouldn’t say that.”

How strange that Moyes didn’t want to take a risk on Kim Min-jae, considering the fact that he would have cost just £2.5 million!

According to Get Football News Italy, Napoli now value the 49-capped South Korea international at a whopping €60 million (£53 million).

It’s not the first time that Moyes has made the wrong decision when it comes to signing somewhat of an unknown talent – you need look no further than Julian Alvarez.

The West Ham boss made a huge error by not signing Kim Min-jae. Let’s just hope that he’s learnt his lesson.
