As West Ham close in on a deal to bring Lucas Paqueta to the London Stadium, high-profile French journalist Julien Laurens has spoken out about the transfer.

Hammers boss David Moyes is closing in on the signing of Paqueta from Lyon according to club insiders.

He is apparently in London now to undergo a medical, so hopefully this one will be wrapped up as soon as possible.

The challenge for Moyes will then be to integrate Paqueta into his West Ham team.

And that is something that may be somewhat of a problem according to one high-profile French journalist…

Julien Laurens delivers West Ham Lucas Paqueta verdict

Laurens, who writes for publications such as ESPN, BT Sport and RMC Sport, has highlighted a potential problem with the Hammers signing the 25-year-old attacking midfielder from Lyon this summer.

Moyes is someone who has notoriously deployed a fairly rigid system where every single player is expected to put in a real shift at both ends of the pitch.

And Laurens alluded to that on his official Twitter account last night:

I kind of feel like Laurens is missing the point here.

Moyes has repeatedly insisted that he needs to freshen up not only the playing staff at the London Stadium, but the way in which his team play as well.

The Scot is clearly well aware that he needs to have another plan aside from the counter-attacking system that has served us so well over the past two years.

Moyes has suggested that he would like his team’s playing style to become more possession based.

And in order to do that, he obviously needs to bring more technically gifted players to the London Stadium – hence the Lucas Paqueta signing.

David Moyes obviously knows what he’s doing by bringing Lucas Paqueta to West Ham.

And we cannot wait to see the Brazilian in a West Ham shirt.

Julien Laurens has badly missed the point here.
