Hammer blow for West Ham as Newcastle reach agreement to sign 'special' Hugo Ekitike

Newcastle have reached an agreement to sign Stade de Reims striker Hugo Ekitike in what is a huge blow to West Ham United.

Hammers boss David Moyes wanted to bring the talented 19-year-old striker to the London Stadium this summer according to a report from Le 10 Sport.

Signing a top-class striker should be David Moyes’s absolute number one priority before the start of next season. The Scot has to bring in an elite goalscorer who possesses blistering pace. Ideally, the Hammers’ next striker signing will be under the age of 24 as well.

And bearing that in mind, Ekitike would have been the perfect summer signing for the Hammers. It seems as though Newcastle have beaten us to the punch though…

Newcastle reach Ekitike agreement as West Ham are left behind

Foot Mercato claim that Magpies boss Eddie Howe has struck a £39 million deal to bring the talented teenage sensation to St James’ Park in the summer transfer window.

That really is bad news for the Hammers. Ekitike would have been so good for us and will undoubtedly go on to become a real star in the game. £39 million could end up looking like an unbelievable bargain for Newcastle.

Ekitike possesses blistering pace and has quite incredible movement. He is a defender’s nightmare. The Reims ace is a very good finisher as well.

In 24 Ligue 1 games this season, the exciting teenager bagged 10 goals and four assists (Transfermarkt).

Ekitike is very similar to a young Thierry Henry. If he goes on to enjoy even half the success that the former Arsenal and Barcelona man did then he will be a seriously good signing for Newcastle.

The sky really is the limit for the teenager, as long as he continues to apply himself properly both on and off the pitch of course.

Reims manager Oscar Garcia recently described Ekitike as a ‘very special’ player (Ligue 1’s official website).

The Reims ace has everything needed to make it at the very highest level.

Unfortunately for West Ham though, Newcastle striking an agreement to sign Ekitike this summer means that it’s curtains for us in our pursuit of the 19-year-old superstar in the making.
