West Ham reportedly want to sign Maxence Lacroix this summer but we could face competition from Newcastle for his signature.

That’s according to a report from Jeunes Footeux who claim that the Wolfsburg defender is attracting interest from West Ham and Newcastle ahead of the summer transfer window.

Hammers boss David Moyes obviously wants to add a top-class centre-back to his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

And Magpies manager Eddie Howe is clearly in the same boat at St James’ Park.

One player is on the radars of both Premier League clubs and there could be a really fierce battle between West Ham and Newcastle for his signature this summer…

West Ham and Newcastle set for Maxence Lacroix battle

According to a report from Jeunes Footeux, both the Hammers and the Magpies want to prise the centre-back away from Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.

The 6ft 3in defender cuts a really imposing figure and is very strong in the air. He’s quick along the ground as well and is a great reader of the game.

The Frenchman plays with a certain kind of maturity that defies his tender years.

In 29 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg so far this season, Lacroix has averaged two tackles, 2.1 interceptions, 4.8 clearances and 2.6 successful aerial duels per game (Who Scored).

The 22-year-old has made 52.4 passes per game and has recorded a completion rate of 81.4% (Who Scored).

Lacroix would be a sensational signing for West Ham but Newcastle will obviously represent a huge problem for us.

The Magpies are the richest club in world football after the recent takeover on Tyneside from the Saudi Public Investment Fund.

If Lacroix demands huge wages and with a €40 million (£34 million) clause inserted into his Wolfsburg contract (Buli News), West Ham might find it hard to compete with Newcastle.

The 22-year-old is a hugely talented young centre-back and possesses all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League. Bundesliga social media manager Alex Chaffer recently labelled him as a ‘magnificent’ defender.

It seems as though West Ham may have our work cut out if we are to beat Newcastle to the signing of Maxence Lacroix in the summer transfer window though. The Toon have far more finical muscle than us and Moyes may well have to eye up alternative targets this summer…
