Florian Plettenberg has delivered a major update on West Ham’s Serhou Guirassy hopes in the January transfer window.

West Ham’s lack of quality in depth up front has been evident this season.

And David Moyes has admitted on several occasions he is looking to sign a forward, including in a recent conversation with Les Ferdinand.

One striker heavily linked with West Ham in the lead up to the January transfer window is Serhou Guirassy.

The 18-goal Stuttgart striker has a £17.5m release clause in January and the Hammers have been given encouragement from key figures at the German club about his availability.

Plettenberg update on West Ham’s Guirassy hopes

Hammers News was told by the top source inside West Ham back in November that some of the club’s targets were due to play at AFCON. And Guirassy is indeed going to the tournament with Guinea.

In a Hammers News exclusive with transfer reporter Rudy Galetti last night, it was confirmed Guirassy is indeed a target.

But Galetti made it clear ‘the competition is really intense’.

Now a Sky Sports Germany reporter has provided the latest on the situation from Stuttgart.

‘Uncertainty created by AFCON timing’

And while a move is not entirely ruled out, it’s not looking good for Tim Steidten and Moyes.

Because all the signs right now point to Guirassy staying with Stuttgart until the summer.

“Serhou Guirassy, the tendency at the moment is that he will stay in Stuttgart in January,” Plettenberg said.

“The VfB (Stuttgart) bosses also assume this.

“Therefore, no active move for (Wolves striker Sasa) Kalajdzic anymore.

“Main reason is AFCON (uncertain timing for his return) and his goals and identification with Stuttgart.”

Lines of communication are established between West Ham and Stuttgart after the deal which took Konstantinos Mavropanos to east London in the summer.

So West Ham fans will just be hoping Steidten can work his powers of persuasion once more.

Especially if the Hammers activate the very low clause.
