Aston Villa have taken the lead in the race to sign Matteo Guendouzi by making a ‘very nice offer’ to the West Ham transfer target.
That’s according to a report from L’Equipe, translated via Sport Witness, who claim that whilst Aston Villa haven’t submitted an official bid for the ex-Arsenal man yet, they have offered him an attractive contract via intermediaries and agents.

Now, West Ham were said to be battling Villa for Guendouzi a couple of days ago.

It’s clear to see that the Villans are being proactive whilst David Moyes dithers in the transfer market yet again.
Guendouzi will be a great signing for whichever club wins the race for his signature. As things stand though, it seems as though Villa are in a better position to make that happen than we are…
Aston Villa make first Matteo Guendouzi move as West Ham look on
L’Equipe reckon that the West Midlands outfit have submitted a ‘very nice offer’ to the ex-Arsenal man.
Jorge Sampaoli recently described Guendouzi as an ‘elite’ midfielder (TEAMtalk). Meanwhile, he has been labelled as an ‘incredibly progressive’ player, and a very good passer of the football (Breaking the Lines).
The 23-year-old would be a great addition for West Ham, but it seems as though we’re behind Villa in the race for his signature at the moment.
Foot Mercato claim that Marseille want around €30 million (£26 million) for the 23-year-old former Arsenal midfielder.
That’s great value as far as I’m concerned, and West Ham should be all over it.

Declan Rice will almost certainly leave the London Stadium in the summer, whilst a big upgrade on Tomas Soucek is required urgently.
Guendouzi would be absolutely perfect for West Ham in my opinion. He has energy and stamina to burn and is a really tenacious tackler, as well as being a superb passer of the football.
Unfortunately for West Ham though, it seems as though Aston Villa are making concrete moves to sign Matteo Guendouzi.
And if Unai Emery manages to bring him to Villa Park, it will very much be their gain and our loss.
