Don’t count out West Ham doing a deal with Aston Villa for striker Jhon Duran just yet claims the journalist who first revealed the interest.

There has been claim and counter claim made about a West Ham move for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

What is known is that the Hammers have been involved in protracted negotiations over the potential signing of Villa’s wantaway Colombian forward.

West Ham looked to be edging ever closer to signing the 20-year-old, who has grown frustrated at playing second fiddle to Ollie Watkins at Villa Park.

Especially when Duran caused controversy by doing the crossed Hammers West Ham salute on social media.

Claim and counter claim about West Ham talks with Villa

But over the weekend it was claimed that talks with Aston Villa were off after West Ham’s latest bid for Duran was rejected.

Reports elsewhere stated West Ham were now looking at other striker options. And that Villa were going to discipline Duran over his Hammers gesture.

The Irons’ interest in ex Chicago Fire forward Duran was first revealed by journalist Alan Nixon back in January.

The Sun reporter said at the time that West Ham had lodged a ‘surprise’ enquiry with Villa for Duan.

And he also claimed the striker may be up for joining the Hammers given his lack of game time under Unai Emery.

After weeks of speculation – and having got their hopes up after his social media gesture – Hammers fans have voiced their disappointment that the move might be off.

Don’t count out West Ham deal for Villa star Duran yet

But don’t count out a West Ham deal for Aston Villa star Duran just yet says the journalist who first broke the news.

Nixon was asked by a West Ham fan about the state of play on the talks with Aston Villa.

The Scottish reporter said the back and forth being played out in the media is just the ‘usual negotiation stuff’.

Nixon believes a deal will still be done as it suits all parties.

“(It’s the) usual negotiation stuff,” Nixon said on X.

“Villa want a sale, player wants to start, West Ham trying to get as cheap as possible.”

Last night it was claimed there was a twist in the talks between West Ham and Villa for Duran.

The West Ham Irons YouTube channel claimed sources at the club had told them the Premier League rivals – who meet on the opening day of the new season – have ‘seen sense’ and agreed a deal.

That has been denied by the top spokesman at West Ham this morning in a Hammers News exclusive.

But the club also gave fans hope by confirming the deal is not dead as has been reported elsewhere.

“Never say never,” the Hammers spokesman said regarding Duran.
