Declan Rice response to Jesse Lingard West Ham post on social media is surely the biggest hint yet of a January return to east London.

Speculation that Lingard could return to West Ham has been rife in recent weeks.

And fuel was added to the fire when reports emerged that talks between Lingard and Manchester United over a new contract have collapsed (Sky Sports).

So when Lingard posted a picture of him doing his JLingz celebration in a West Ham shirt on his Instagram account today it sent many Hammers fans into a frenzy.

Lingard then commented with a ‘whoosh’ emoji when West Ham posted a video of his wonderful solo goal against Wolves while on loan with the Hammers last season.

Now Declan Rice – who is close friends with Lingard since linking up with the Red Devils bench-warmer at West Ham – has responded to Lingard’s post with a simple emoji that is surely the biggest hint yet that JLingz is set for a January return.

Rice responded with a ‘looking eyes’ emoji to the fact Lingard had commented on the post.

And given their close relationship, Rice will know behind the scenes if there are rumblings that a January return is on the cards.

If that was not the case he simply would not have posted the response.

With Said Benrahma off to the African Nations for a month to six weeks midway through the season, West Ham simply must do everything they can to bring Lingard back to the bowl.

But he looks like a long-term project for Moyes who needs a season to settle in.

West Ham have the chance to do something seriously special this season.

And Lingard could be that extra bit of incisive, pacy quality they need, as he was last term when he helped David Moyes’s side to within one win of Champions League qualification.
