David Ornstein’s stunning Chelsea claim will make West Ham fans love new signing Mohammed Kudus even more.

It seems West Ham have beaten Chelsea twice in a week.

The Hammers clearly took great confidence from last Sunday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea as they managed to win by the same score at Brighton on Saturday.

The week got even better last night when West Ham completed the brilliant signing of Ajax and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus – who had been linked with the likes of Barca, Arsenal and Chelsea – in a £38m deal.

David Ornstein’s stunning Chelsea claim will make West Ham fans love new signing Mohammed Kudus even more

There were fears that other clubs, including those in mega rich Saudi Arabia and one Premier League rival, were going to hijack West Ham’s move for the 23-year-old in the last 48 hours.

But late on Saturday night Fabrizio Romano confirmed West Ham’s fourth summer signing with his trademark ‘here we go’.

West Ham fans had already woken up looking like they’d slept with hangers in their mouths this morning. So they were even more delighted on seeing Romano’s confirmation of the Kudus deal.

Now David Ornstein’s stunning Chelsea claim will make West Ham fans love new signing Kudus even more.

Because The Athletic journalist has confirmed Chelsea actually made contact with Ajax last month to try and sign Kudus – only for the player to now join their London rivals West Ham.

Big spending Blues wanted magical star but he’s joining massive West Ham

“The 23-year-old attacking midfielder flew to London on Saturday to complete a medical with the Premier League side and his move is set to be announced by Monday…” Ornstein said.

“The Ghana international had attracted interest from other Premier League clubs this transfer window. The Athletic reported earlier in August that Brighton had reached an agreement in principle with Ajax to sign him, while Chelsea had made contact with Ajax last month over a potential deal.”

West Ham have discovered something extremely rare – a player who did not push to join mega spending Chelsea!

This is a real statement signing for West Ham and shows what can be possible with calm, targeted recruitment as opposed to getting out the scattergun, as Chelsea seem to have done under Todd Boehly.

Ironically West Ham have also signed Edson Alvarez from Ajax this summer after he saw a move to Chelsea collapse at the 11th hour last year.

Chelsea’s spending may be huge, but West Ham are massive.
