A European football expert has praised West Ham’s exceptional rebuild after selling Declan Rice to Arsenal.

West Ham boss David Moyes and the club’s fans are not the only ones impressed by the rebuild following Declan Rice’s £105m move to Arsenal.

After a thawing of initial frosty relations between Moyes and new technical director Tim Steidten at West Ham, the pair have been working to try and ensure the Rice money they received from Arsenal is well spent.

Fans, pundits and even Domino’s Pizza mocked Moyes and West Ham for their inability to sign players in the immediate aftermath of Rice’s sale to the Gunners.

It may have taken some time, but West Ham have impressed fans and observers with the acquisitions of Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse as Rice’s replacements.

The Hammers have also signed ex Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos and are set to sign hugely exciting Ajax star Mohammed Kudus with the bulk of the Rice funds.

This week Moyes declared there is life after Dec and says he believes West Ham are now stronger with their new signings.

‘I was pretty worried…’

Presenter Dougie Critchley – of Football Daily and Sky Sports – is well versed on Europe’s top leagues and talents.

And he has been seriously impressed by the post-Rice rebuild at West Ham after initially fearing – like many others – the club were going to struggle.

“I was pretty worried about West Ham a few weeks ago,” Critchley said.

“But Edson Alvarez, James Ward-Prowse and Mohammed Kudus for £1.7m less than the price of Declan Rice is an exceptional midfield rebuild on paper.”

Exciting times but Moyes must mould a new-look West Ham

Critchley is spot on. There is no denying West Ham are now stronger than they were with Rice – on paper at least.

Now it is over to Moyes to mould this new-look Hammers side into a team which can get back to competing for the European spots.

The squad is looking strong with a striker possibly on the way before next Friday’s transfer deadline too.

So what’s to stop West Ham having another crack at the Europa League as well.

Exciting times after a difficult first six weeks of the summer transfer window.
