West Ham are said to be interested in signing Nantes left-back Quentin Merlin in the January transfer window.
According to a report from 90 Min, the 21-year-old Frenchman is firmly on the West Ham radar ahead of the January transfer window.
And if Hammers boss David Moyes does bring Merlin to the London Stadium this winter, it will almost certainly spell the end for Aaron Cresswell.
The 33-year-old is still at the London Stadium in spite of his quite obvious regression, after his failed £4 million move to Wolves in the summer.
Cresswell, who earns £53k-a-week (Salary Sport), has made just two appearances this season – one in the Premier League and one in the Europa League – for a total of just 130 minutes (Transfermarkt).
And it seems as though Moyes is ready to make a big upgrade in the left-back department…

Moyes trying to sign Quentin Merlin surely means the end for West Ham stalwart
90 Min claim that the Hammers will try to bring Merlin to East London from Nantes this winter.
Foot the Ball describe him as a brilliant, attacking left-back, and he has pace and power to burn. That’s exactly what we need in the left-back department, and at right-back as well if truth be told.
The game has moved on, and any successful team nowadays have powerful young full-backs with blistering pace.
The Nantes starlet has those qualities in abundance.
In 11 Ligue 1 appearances for Nantes this season, Merlin has averaged 1.5 tackles, one interception and one key pass per game (Who Scored).
He can play at left-back, as a wing-back or even as an orthodox winger – so that kind of versatility will undoubtedly appeal to Moyes.
I think that Quentin Merlin would be a superb signing for West Ham, and his arrival in East London would surely mean that Aaron Cresswell is no longer needed.
The problem for the Hammers is that Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli are all allegedly keen on signing the young Frenchman as well.
So we’ll definitely have our work cut out if we are to sign the Nantes youngster.
