David Moyes stunned fans and pundits alike with something he did in the Brentford vs West Ham clash today.

West Ham took on Brentford in the Premier League at the Gtech Community Stadium this afternoon, and David Moyes surprised everyone.

The Hammers headed into the clash full of confidence after our midweek win over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup.

However, we fell behind early to a Neal Maupay strike – a forward who hadn’t scored a goal for 14 months prior – no prizes for guessing which team he bagged against back in September 2022!

West Ham bounced back in fine style with goals from Mohammed Kudus – an unbelievable strike by the way – and the on-fire Jarrod Bowen.

We went on to lose the game because of a really poor second-half performance, and that’s something that Moyes has to get right.

However, it was something that was evident from the very first minute of the match that really knocked the fans and commentators for six…

The Scot incredibly lined up with a 4-4-2 formation for the clash with Brentford, with Bowen supporting Michail Antonio in attack and Kudus and Said Benrahma on either wing.

Moyes has set up with two strikers up front once before in his time at West Ham – Fulham away last year when Danny Ings partnered Michail Antonio up front.

Is the Scot really changing then? It seems like he could well be.

Firstly, he admitted that he enjoyed Lucas Paqueta’s recently showboating in midweek – that’s unheard of from Moyes, it really is.

And then he rocks up to a quality Brentford side away from home with an old-school 4-4-2 system. I must admit, I was really excited when I saw the Hammers set up in the way that we did for the Bees clash.

The fans were shocked by David Moyes’s setup for the Brentford vs West Ham clash, and so were the commentators. Tony Gale highlighted how it was a really unusual move from the Hammers boss whilst on co-comm duty.

Hopefully we’ll see more of this now. When Lucas Paqueta returns, I would like to see him replace Michail Antonio with Bowen, Kudus and the Brazilian all interchanging up front for West Ham.

It’s such a shame that we lost today because the team sat back after the half-time break. However, the huge positive is how dangerous we looked at times inside the first 45.

There could be some exciting times ahead indeed for the Hammers, but Moyes has to get his players purring for the entire 90 minutes.
