Hammers boss David Moyes opened up on his major West Ham striker signing frustration in a transfer update last night.

West Ham have been linked with a host of players in the January transfer window with Moyes on the hunt for at least one defender and a forward.

Some West Ham fans have bemoaned the fact the club did not have targets lined up ready to move at the start of the month.

Indeed a number of recent media reports claim West Ham may not bring anyone in during the winter window.

Moyes has admitted this year’s mid-season window already feels more difficult.

Supporters are desperate to see the club sign another striker having relied almost entirely on Michail Antonio since selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax this time last year.

Antonio has done amazingly well for West Ham since being converted to a striker by Moyes.

But even he admitted recently that he would welcome another striker with whom to share the goal scoring burden at West Ham.

Most clubs operate with at least two or three recognised strikers in their squad.

And West Ham fans were urging the club to sign another forward BEFORE selling Haller.

Well now Moyes has opened up on his major West Ham striker signing frustration in a transfer update following the 2-0 win over Norwich, a game in which Antonio struggled somewhat.

“We have been trying to get someone who can compete with Mic for two years,” Moyes told reporters after the game (Football.London).

“It is hard to bring in centre-forwards. I want to bring players in but I am not going to do it for the sake of it or because the transfer window is pushed by the media.

“Supporters want players and we will try to do so. I am hoping to do business.”

One striker West Ham have been persistently linked with again recently is Gabriel Barbosa.

According to South American expert Tim Vickery, the Brazilian is not the type of character Moyes would want at West Ham.

But last night Sky Sports claimed an 18 month loan deal with a £25m option to buy is on the table from the Hammers.

And ‘Gabigol’ is said to be pushing for the move to east London.
