West Ham United are now being linked with a move to sign Lovro Majer as a potential replacement for Lucas Paqueta.

Should Lucas Paqueta leave West Ham in the summer transfer window, Mail Online’s Transfer Confidential claim that Rennes ace Lovro Majer is being lined up by Hammers boss David Moyes as a replacement for the Brazilian.

Paqueta is being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City. However, reporters close to the West Ham owners claimed that Man City are yet to lodge an official bid for the 25-year-old.

The Hammers obviously won’t want to lose the former Lyon man, but if he is sold, getting a top-class replacement through the door before the end of the window will be an absolute necessity.

Unfortunately for us, it seems as though Moyes has his eye on someone who quite simply isn’t in Paqueta’s league…

David Moyes has a really underwhelming replacement lined up for Lucas Paqueta

Lovro Majer could be the man to come in and fill the void left behind by the Brazilian, if he does indeed join Man City.

The Croatia international is a very hard-working midfielder, and he’s certainly not a bad player.

I just worry that he doesn’t have anywhere near the same kind of technical ability that Paqueta possesses.

Majer would be a decent signing for the Hammers as a standalone deal, but only if we kept the 25-year-old Brazilian as well.

However, signing him as a replacement for Lucas Paqueta would be a real backward step for West Ham as far as I’m concerned.

Hopefully Moyes has some more ambitious transfer targets lined up.
