The East London outfit have been strongly linked with a move to sign the 26-year-old all summer long – and it was suggested last week that we were close to prising him away from the Turin giants.

Hammers manager David Moyes desperately needs more central midfield reinforcements at the London Stadium, with Declan Rice having left join Arsenal a few weeks ago.

David Moyes finally agrees deal for 1st summer signing with midfielder West Ham bound
The Mirror reckon that Denis Zakaria is closing in on a move to the London Stadium imminently.
Our summer transfer window has been beyond farcical so far, so it will be nice to get a signing across the line, whether you think Zakaria is the player we need or not.

The 26-year-old Swiss ace is a very good midfielder. He is strong as an ox, and has energy and athleticism in abundance.
However, if he is the only central midfielder that Moyes signs in the summer transfer window, it will be hugely underwhelming.
Denis Zakaria is quite simply not good enough to replace Declan Rice on his own. Moyes needs to bring in an elite defensive midfielder as well as the Switzerland international, if we are to make genuine progress as a club over the next few years.
It remains to be seen whether Moyes plans to do just that though.
