West Ham United are still trying to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United this summer.

According to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is firmly on the radar of West Ham in the summer transfer window, and we’re exploring both loan and permeant deals to sign him.

It was recently claimed that the East London outfit are patiently waiting to sign the 30-year-old Man United centre-back this summer.

It is worth remembering though that our approach to sign him last summer was apparently mocked by his friends.

That said, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. And it seems as though Maguire could be West Ham bound, if a few differences can be smoothed out between the two clubs and the player himself…

Harry Maguire to West Ham is still on but there’s one very big problem

It seems as though West Ham are still trying hard to sign the 30-year-old Man United defender this summer.

Sheth explained how the Hammers are trying to bring Maguire to the London Stadium on the Sky Sports Transfer Show last night (Monday July 24th, 5:10pm):

“It’s not just midfield, they’re looking to bring in a defender as well, and they’re still pushing to sign Manchester United’s Harry Maguire. They are looking at a loan and a permanent deal for him. Wages could be the stumbling block though.”

Described by Paul Merson as ‘outstanding’ (Sky Sports), Maguire is one of the very best centre-backs around when he is playing as part of a system that suits him – either a deep back-line or as part of three centre-backs.

I think that the 30-year-old defender would be a superb addition for the Hammers, contrary to what many of our fans would have you believe.

He has been an absolute man mountain when playing for England over the past few years but has been the target of heavy criticism for some of his displays for Man United.

The England international is far better suited to either playing in back three or as part of a team who operate with a deep back-line.

That’s why he’d be so good for West Ham and if Moyes does sign Harry Maguire this summer, I’ll be over the moon.

However, his wage demands will clearly be a big problem, and it remains to be seen whether he is willing to make a compromise in order to move to the London Stadium.
