Darwin Nunez is a summer priority for West Ham but he'll cost £67 million

Darwin Nunez is a priority signing for West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Evening Standard who claims that Hammers boss David Moyes is desperate to get the signing of a top-class striker done and dusted this summer.

West Ham currently have 31-year-old Michail Antonio as our only centre-forward.

That clearly isn’t good enough for a club with aspirations of challenging for honours both domestically and on the continent.

The Best XI Already NOT Going To The 2022 World Cup

Moyes obviously needs to address the Hammers’ centre-forward deficiencies in the summer. We have been linked with plenty of strikers since Sebastien Haller was sold to Ajax in January 2021.

Arguably the best of the bunch though is Benfica ace Darwin Nunez. And it seems as though Moyes really wants to bring him to the London Stadium in the summer after failing to do so in January.

Darwin Nunez a priority for West Ham

The Evening Standard claims that the Hammers’ number one priority this summer is to sign an elite centre-forward and the 22-year-old Benfica hitman is at the very top of the list.

And it’s little wonder why.

The Uruguay international would be an absolutely sensational addition for West Ham United.

Nunez’s playing style is quintessentially South American. He is a tenacious presser, plays with real physicality and has real technical ability. The 22-year-old seems to be ideally suited for the Premier League what with its intense and robust nature.

Nunez has bagged 26 goals in 33 games for Benfica this season (Transfermarkt).

He’s fast, great in the air and has absolutely everything that West Ham need in a striker.

There is one big problem though. Benfica want €80 million (£67 million) for Nunez according to a report from A Bola.

If West Ham want to compete with the big boys though, that’s the kind of money that we need to be splashing out on a striker in the summer.

And Nunez would be the absolute perfect summer signing for the Hammers. It would be a huge statement from the East London outfit as well.
