Chelsea now pose a serious threat to West Ham’s move for sensational free agent striker Marcus Thuram after a new claim.
It is fair to say both West Ham and Chelsea have fallen drastically below expectations this season.
West Ham have gone from fighting for the top six to battling relegation from the Premier League.
While Chelsea find themselves treading water in midtable obscurity.
That’s despite West Ham and Chelsea spending nearly £800m between them – with the Blues’ share said to be over £600m – in the two windows this season.
West Ham and Chelsea share a common problem on the pitch this season – they both struggle to score goals.

The Hammers have scored just 29 goals all season leaving them all the way down in 16th in the Prem scoring charts.
Chelsea have just one more goal to their name and sit 15th in that particular table.
So it is fair to assume both clubs will be looking to the striker department when the summer window rolls around.
With the future of both Gianluca Scamacca and Michail Antonio uncertain beyond this summer, it is no surprise that West Ham are already being linked with interest in a number of forwards.
At Chelsea there are expected to be a host of departures and signing at least one – if not two – forwards is said to be a top priority.
While money is no object for Chelsea under Todd Boehly, the budget at West Ham is more modest by comparison.

Chelsea now pose serious threat to West Ham’s move for sensational free agent striker Marcus Thuram after new claim
So news emerging this week is frustrating.
West Ham have been credited with a longstanding interest in signing France forward Marcus Thuram.
It was confirmed this week that Thuram will be a free agent this summer having refused to sign a new deal at Borussia Monchengladbach.
And it is being reported that West Ham are one of the clubs very much interested in signing him.
But Chelsea now pose a serious threat to West Ham’s move for sensational free agent striker Thuram after a new claim.
Football London reports that Chelsea are on ‘red alert’ after the official announcement that Thuram will be a free agent.
And the Blues may have an ace card up their sleeves in a bid to beat West Ham and a host of other clubs to the Frenchman.

Because there is increasing talk in Chelsea circles that the club will also try to sign Thuram’s younger brother Khephren Thuram – who is a midfielder impressing for Nice.
That’s according to Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope.
“One name to re-emerge in conversations (of Newcastle transfer targets) of late has been that of Khephren Thuram, the Nice and France midfielder,” Hope states.
“Chelsea and Liverpool have also been watching the 22-year-old.”
If Chelsea are interested then – as we have seen over the two windows since Boehly’s arrival at Stamford Bridge – there is usually only one winner.
So that could be bad news for West Ham, even if Thuram always did look like something of an outside shot.
News of Chelsea’s interest in Khephren may also be fatal for West Ham, who were linked with the midfield ace just last month as a replacement for Declan Rice (Give Me Sport).
