A devastating new Declan Rice milestone reality has become painfully clear ahead of another busy week for West Ham.

As Hammers fans know only too well the clock is ticking down on the moment Declan Rice leaves West Ham this summer.

As sad a prospect as that is for West Ham it is the reality of the modern day game as the skipper goes in search of the Champions League football and top trophies only a select few clubs can deliver.

Watching Rice walk out every game singing Bubbles brings a warmth to the soul.

The kid West Ham took a chance on after he was thrown on the football scrapheap by Chelsea aged 14 has blossomed into one of the finest midfielders in the world.

Rice rise should be source of immense pride for everyone connected with West Ham

It should be a source of immense pride for all of us at West Ham.

Yes we’d all love him to stay and for the club to be able to build a team around him for years to come.

Rice has turned down the biggest contract in West Ham history – worth over £80m – which proves this is not about money for him and never has been.

You can see that in the way he plays and conducts himself. He is a winner and will always be loved at West Ham no matter what. And he’ll always love us.

It’s going to be tough to say goodbye to such a great player and person come the summer.

West Ham take on Gent in the second leg of their crunch Europa Conference League quarter-final on Thursday night.

They follow that up with a relegation six-pointer against Bournemouth on Sunday and a home match against Liverpool next Wednesday.

But on Sunday evening, depending on whether we progress against Gent, Rice will have just 10 games left in a West Ham shirt – at the very most!

Should we fail to make the Conference League semi-finals then that countdown will already be into single figures.

Let’s not dwell on it, though, but embrace the fact and cherish every last moment he plays in the claret and blue.

I’m not crying, you are.
