West Ham are keen on adding a centre-back in January and Chelsea defender Axel Disasi’s name has been mentioned.

The Hammers have one of the worst defences in the top flight this season and are currently in the relegation zone.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are predicted to be relegated from the Premier League, which is why he is urging the West Ham board for new signings.

Axel Disasi likely to quit Chelsea in January

According to Sky Sports, Disasi is likely to leave Chelsea in the January transfer window.

The Blues are expecting the 27-year-old to attract more suitors next month as they are looking to cash in on him.

West Ham, along with Sunderland and Bournemouth, showed an interest in securing his services in the summer.

Chelsea also offered the French centre-back to Crystal Palace, but he did not end up moving to Selhurst Park.

Disasi spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he had a mixed spell under Unai Emery.

West Ham are considering other centre-backs in January

While the Disasi link makes sense, he is not the only defender on the club’s radar in January.

West Ham want to sign Charlie Cresswell, amid their failure to land him in the summer.

Can Charlie Cresswell address West Ham’s defensive issues?

Charlie Cresswell wins 3.91 aerial duels per 90 minutes – that puts him in the 97th percentile in Europe’s top five leagues. He could be useful…?

He is understood to be their top priority and the Hammers are expected to launch a move for him soon, as Nuno wants him at the London Stadium.

Thiago Silva has also been mentioned as a potential option and it remains to be seen if anything materialises on that front on a short-term basis.

It is clear that, along with a new striker, a new central defender is the priority for Nuno.

The Hammers board have begun working on potential incomings and outgoings as they aim to back their manager in the fight against relegation.
