West Ham United have retained their interest in signing Charlie Cresswell after failing to secure his services in the summer.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Toulouse’s Cresswell is on Nuno Espirito Santo’s radar, as the Portuguese is keen on bolstering his defence.

The Hammers have conceded the third-highest goals in the Premier League this term, and it comes as no surprise that they are the third-worst team on the table.

This is shocking! 😰 Relegation is going to be dire for West Ham…

What would YOU do to avoid this mess?

Opta predict West Ham to get relegated, and that is something that everyone at the club wants to avoid.

West Ham remain in regular contact with Charlie Cresswell’s representatives

According to The Athletic, the Irons are not the only team keen on signing the 23-year-old in the coming weeks.

The Toulouse centre-back is viewed by the Hammers hierarchy as the perfect fit to help them avoid relegation.

West Ham’s representatives are in constant dialogue with the English defender’s representatives ahead of a potential January transfer.

The French club are demanding a £22million fee in order to part ways with the former Leeds United defender.

What does Cresswell’s potential arrival mean for Max Kilman?

Max Kilman has been in and out of the playing eleven in recent weeks as he is the third-choice centre-back for Nuno.

When the manager is playing a back three, Kilman is on his side, but in a back four, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo are fancied by the Portuguese.

Cresswell’s arrival would make him the fourth choice and further limit his minutes on the field of play.

If he is fine with that, then he can continue to be on the bench, but in case he isn’t, he may angle for a move away from the London Stadium in January.

At 28, Kilman would want to play regularly and that is not happening.

A lot of it is down to his performances, and he has proven to be a defensive liability in a few games this season.

Nuno cannot afford to have unreliable starters as he is tasked with getting this side out of relegation danger.

It remains to be seen if Kilman pushes for an exit right away or waits until the summer.
