Callum Wilson’s reaction to honest talks with Nuno at West Ham speaks volumes

The curious case of Callum Wilson’s West Ham United career takes another turn.

Only four months after joining the club, Wilson is expected to leave West Ham.

Indeed, following the signings of Taty Castellanos and Pablo Felipe, the 33-year-old has fallen behind in the pecking order.

While it might seem strange that a West Ham team battling against relegation would let a striker go, Nuno Espirito Santo has already confirmed that Wilson can leave

Out of 10, how CONFIDENT are you that Nuno can still save West Ham?

Beating QPR in the FA Cup is a start…

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo of West Ham United attends the post-match press conference during the Premier League match between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest at London Stadium on January 6, 2026 in London, England.

Quite when it happens remains to be seen. There has been no official communication yet, despite previous reports suggesting that it was close.

Wilson’s recent Sky Sports interview did not reference West Ham in a positive light, with the forward only talking about the hat-trick he scored against them in 2015.

The writing does appear to be on the wall. Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a breakdown in relationships behind the scenes.

Callum Wilson and Nuno still on good terms at West Ham

According to leading transfer reporter Ben Jacobs, Wilson still does have a positive relationship with Nuno Espirito Santo

Nuno, of course, is under huge pressure and it would hardly be much of a surprise to see another managerial change before the season is out.

Jacobs has revealed that Wilson and Nuno do have a good relationship and that the striker has taken his current situation as a model professional.

He told talkSPORT: “I think all parties now accept that it’s better that Wilson’s contract is terminated. So, I’m expecting movement on this front in the next maybe week or so.

“Wilson spoke to Nuno Espirito Santo and they’ve got a good relationship off the field and Wilson has been a model professional and he was told by the West Ham boss that he just wasn’t going to get that much game time after the two new additions arrived and as a result Wilson has also accepted that he needs to leave the club.”

What would YOU do with Wilson had you been calling the shots? 🤔

Callum Wilson’s reaction to leaving West Ham is refreshing

Fans may rightly be annoyed at the fact Wilson overlooked mentioning the club in a positive light when speaking to Sky Sports.

That is hard to understand, to be frank.

Still, the fact he’s seemingly accepted his fate is refreshingly honest. It would be easy to aim digs at a club crisis when it’s clear you’re leaving after only four months.

That might be more a reflection on modern day football more than anything else but it is worth thinking about.

Wilson was a strange signing for West Ham given his injury problems in recent seasons, as well as the fact he offers nothing like a long-term solution.

At least, however, his seemingly imminent exit may not be a messy one.
