Callum Wilson once said West Ham is a team everyone wants to play for, now Moyes wants him

West Ham United have reportedly thrown our hat in the ring in the race to sign Callum Wilson from Newcastle United.

Newcastle hitman Callum Wilson has been our nemesis for years now, scoring 12 goals in 14 games against West Ham – four more than he has against any other team in his career (Transfermarkt).

However, it now seems like Hammers boss David Moyes could bring our famous old foe to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.

If we do sign the 31-year-old, at least he won’t be able to score against us anymore!

Interestingly, Wilson actually raved about us last year, describing us a club that everyone wants to play for.

And maybe now we’ll get to see whether or not he was speaking the truth I guess…

Callum Wilson a target for West Ham

According to a report from the Sun, West Ham are on ‘red alert’ after being informed that the former Bournemouth striker is available in the January window.

Manchester United and Chelsea are said to be in the race for Wilson’s signature as well, so we clearly won’t have things all our own way.

I wouldn’t be completely against signing the Newcastle striker, but only if it’s for a reasonable fee, and not on a contract longer than two-and-a-half years.

Wilson has bagged eight goals in 20 games for Newcastle so far this season, and he has 138 goals in 364 career games to his name (Transfermarkt).

He is a proven striker and would be a major upgrade on his old podcast mate Michail Antonio. However, be warned, his injury record is horrendous.

Since the start of the 2018/2019 season, Wilson has missed 486 games through injury (Transfermarkt). He’s currently out injured with a calf problem right now as well!

Signing Callum Wilson would certainly be a risk for West Ham, but if he remained injury free, he’d definitely be a big hit for us. It just remains to be seen whether the owners are prepared to take that risk or not.
