West Ham could now face competition from fierce rivals Tottenham for the signing of River Plate striker Julian Alvarez in January.
That’s according to Sport Italia transfer insider Gianluigi Longari who suggested that Tottenham are keen to sign the Argentinian ace.
El Intrasigente recently claimed that West Ham boss David Moyes is eyeing a £21 million deal to bring Alvarez to the London Stadium in January.
It appears as though Spurs manager Antonio Conte wants to bring him to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as well though.
He has been described as a spectacular young striker by Planet Football.
Whichever club wins the race for his signature will be getting a seriously good player. It seems as though West Ham may have a tough battle on their hands in the race for the South American starlet’s services, however.
West Ham face Tottenham competition for £21m ace in Janaury
That’s according to Italian football journalist Gianluigi Longari:
The young River Plate hitman is a truly exceptional player.
Alvarez has been on fire for River Plate so far this season with 17 goals and seven assists to his name in just 19 games (Transfermarkt).
He possesses blistering pace, is strong in the air and on the ground and plays with typical Argentinian heart and passion.
In other words, he’s the absolutely perfect signing for David Moyes and would slot into the current West Ham team seamlessly.
So it is obvious to see why Tottenham’s apparent interest in the 21-year-old will come as an unwelcome inconvenience for the Hammers.
Much will depend on which club are prepared to offer Alvarez a) the most money and b) the strongest guarantees of regular first-team football.
Let’s just hope that West Ham have started to set the wheels in motion to bring the River Plate ace to the London Stadium already.
Because missing out on his signature to Tottenham in January would be a really hard blow to stomach.
