Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola looks set for a West Ham departure after as ex Hammer lets the cat out of the bag over a new signing.
Areola, on loan from PSG, has played a massive part in West Ham making it to the Europa League semi-finals.
Hammers fans are desperate to see Areola signed permanently and West Ham confirmed they have first option on the ‘keeper when he joined last July.
Your Club's SURPRISE Star This Season
Moyes himself has suggested he would like to sign Areola permanently this summer with West Ham having first option with PSG for a reported £11m.
Areola’s former club Fulham have also been linked with the Frenchman and can offer him the number one spot (90Min and Football League World).
Meanwhile the Hammers continue to be linked with other goalkeepers including West Bromwich Albion’s Sam Johnstone and Burnley’s Nick Pope.
Now it appears Areola looks set for a West Ham departure this summer after an ex Hammer let the cat out of the bag over a new signing.
West Ham legend Tony Cottee reportedly let slip to a betting website that Moyes already has an English goalkeeper signed in a deal that will be announced soon (West Ham Zone).
“I think they’ve already done a deal to sign a goalkeeper, which will be announced soon,” Cottee has reportedly said (West Ham Zone).
“English goalkeeper, I think that’s going to be coming soon.”
With Johnstone available on a free transfer this summer and the longstanding links to West Ham, that appears to be the most likely if Cottee’s claims are true.
Areola and Johnstone are the same age, 29.
But is the West Brom man – who has been playing in the Championship – really better than France international Areola?
Areola’s reactions, his speed around the goal – and off his line – and kicking are excellent. Not to mention his presence given his huge 6ft 5in frame.
This is a guy who has played for PSG, Real Madrid and France.
So can it really be argued Johnstone is the better option?
Or are West Ham and Moyes already penny pinching ahead of the summer window?
