Like almost all departments at the London Stadium, West Ham United’s defence is in a state of flux following relegation from the Premier League.

Chelsea misfit Axel Disasi will not be returning to the London Stadium.

Jean-Clair Todibo is expected to leave following a bitter fall-out with Nuno Espirito Santo at St James’ Park. West Ham United would not stand in Max Kilman’s way, while Konstantinos Mavropanos is likely to attract offers after winning the club’s Player of the Year award.

No wonder young Ezra Mayers is expected to have a big part to play in the Championship next term.

According to claims out of Brazil on Tuesday afternoon, though, West Ham’s defensive restructuring could be centred around a far more experienced centre-half. Specifically, a 30-year-old with four Brazil caps and no fewer than 21 trophies adorning his CV; Flamengo’s Leo Pereira.

West Ham United reportedly move for Flamengo’s Leo Pereira

Reporter Pablo Oliveira claims to have been informed by Pereira’s representative that there is an offer on the table from West Ham.

“According to his agent, Ricardo Scheidt, the 30-year-old Brazilian defender Leo Pereira has received several offers to leave Flamengo,” Oliveira writes. “Scheidt cited Besiktas, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Cruz Azul, and Monterrey as some of the interested clubs.”

This is not the first time Pereira’s name has appeared.

West Ham reportedly made contact with Flamengo before tying up a deal for the aforementioned Disasi in the dying embers of the winter window.

And in what could stand them in good stead, the Hammers have a good working relationship with Flamengo following Lucas Paqueta’s return to the Maracana.

A two-time Brazilian Serie A champion, Pereira is a 6ft 2ins left-footed central defender strong both in the air and with the ball at his feet. If West Ham were to win the race – this is no easy task given interest from top-flight Nottingham Forest and well-heeled Besiktas – Pereira would likely be tasked with filling the void created by Disasi’s return to Stamford Bridge.

He is also part of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad for the 2026 World Cup.
