There were some contrasting reports surrounding the futures of West Ham United starlets Mohamadou Kante and Ezra Mayers on Friday morning.
A talented crop of Hammers youngsters are expected to play a big role in the Championship next term, the likes of Freddie Potts, Josh Ajala and Finlay Herrick waiting in the wings should the likes of Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville and Alphonse Areola depart.
Mohamadou Kante is extremely highly-regarded at West Ham United, too.

Not only among the coaching staff – Nuno Espirito Santo handed the midfielder his debut in late-2025 – but also among the Hammers News readers who have tipped Kante to become the breakout star of 2026/27.
According to new reports to emerge via The Athletic, however, there is a chance that Kante will not be around to see the Championship season begin at the London Stadium.
Mohamadou Kante linked with West Ham United exit already

The Athletic say that a number of unnamed Ligue 1 clubs are targeting the Paris FC graduate. West Ham are reportedly ‘braced for offers’ as well.
The much-maligned Tim Steidten brought Kante to England for just £500,000 in the summer of 2024, and it is understood that West Ham could secure themselves a sizeable profit if they decided to cash in after just 67 minutes of league action.
Kante is reportedly valued between £15 and £20 million.
Considering the financial problems brought about via relegation, one suspects the Hammers would sooner cash in on Kante than a more proven, regular first-team option like Fernandes or Summerville. Then again, given that the Hammers have barely even scratched the surface of the 20-year-old’s potential, losing him so early would also come as a big disappointment.

In contrast, The Athletic adds that Ezra Mayers is likely to stick around.
While the likes of Airidas Golambeckis and Preston Fearon could be loaned out, the newly-crowned Young Hammer of the Year will be part of Nuno’s first-team roster next term.
Mayers’ ability to play at left-back and left-centre-back should ensure he gets plenty of game time in the Championship.
