West Ham now have a concrete interest in signing Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to a report from Corriere di Bologna (print edition, May 16th, page 5) who claim that Bologna are prepared to sell Schouten in the summer.
Last week, Hammers News covered a report from CalcioNapoli24 in Italy claiming that West Ham officials were set to sit down with Bologna bigwigs about the possibility of signing the 25-year-old midfield ace.
Central midfield is definitely an area at the London Stadium where David Moyes needs to strengthen before the start of next season.
Mark Noble is all set to retire at the end of the current campaign whilst Alex Kral will almost certainly be sent back to Spartak Moscow after an underwhelming loan spell at the London Stadium.
And it seems as though the Scot has one man in particular in mind…
West Ham eyeing swoop for Bologna midfielder in the summer transfer window
Corriere di Bologna (print edition, May 16th, page 5) claims that Schouten is firmly on the Hammers’ radar ahead of the summer window.
The Serie A outfit’s season is essentially finished. They currently sit in 13th spot in the table with one game remaining and the local press have been fairly damning of their recent performances.
As a result, it is alleged that many players will be moved on this summer, one of them being Jerdy Schouten.
And we think that the Dutchman would be a very solid addition for West Ham.
He is a defensive midfielder by trade but can also operate further forward if need be.
In 16 Serie A appearances so far this season, the 25-year-old has bagged one goal and one assist. During those outings, Schouten has averaged 1.5 tackles, two interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game. He has also made an average of 48.3 passes per game and has recorded an 84.9% completion rate (Who Scored).
The Dutch ace also fits the physical profile of player Moyes usually likes to sign.
Schouten stands at 6ft 1in tall and is incredibly robust, powerful and energetic. He also possesses impressive technical ability.
Sempre Inter claim that Bologna could demand around €15 million (£13 million) for the midfielder. That’s great value in our opinion.
West Ham desperately need to sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window. Now, Schouten would be a very solid option but if he is the only CM Moyes brings in this summer, it will be fairly underwhelming, we have to say.
