Hammers star Michail Antonio has lifted the lid on who now has sole control of West Ham’s set pieces after a key departure.
When West Ham were in negotiations to sign dead ball specialist James Ward-Prowse in the summer it made perfect sense.
The Hammers have been one of the most dangerous teams from set pieces since David Moyes returned to the club back in 2020.

Ward-Prowse and West Ham a match made in heaven
So adding Ward-Prowse – regarded by none other than Pep Guardiola as the best free-kick taker on the planet – was a match made in heaven.
Eight goals and assists in nine games has already proved that theory.
And it has also helped dispel fears that West Ham might be weaker in the set-piece department following Paul Nevin’s exit over the summer.

Nevin was hailed as the mastermind behind the Hammers set-piece mastery until he suddenly left the club. Assisted by fellow West Ham assistant Kevin Nolan, Nevin helped make the Hammers a tour de force in that area.
During the dark days last season it was claimed by an alleged first team whistleblower that Moyes had taken Nevin and fellow assistant Nolan off set-plays.
So who is in charge this season?
Well star Michail Antonio has lifted the lid on who now has sole control of West Ham’s set pieces following that key departure.

‘It’s going good, it’s going good’
Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast, Antonio revealed Moyes has now put Nolan in charge of the important aspect of West Ham’s game.
“To be fair he’s (Nolan) very good,” Antonio said.
“He’s so down to earth, he’s so chilled, he’s always having banter with the boys. He is quality…
“He is very good and I think he’s taken over set pieces now from Paul Nevin and obviously we’re a team that’s known for our set pieces and he’s doing well.
“We’ve scored a couple of goals from them so it’s going good, it’s going good.
“He always has good banter with the boys. Even though he’s retired he’s definitely still one of the boys.”
