Downes was one of eight summer signings made by West Ham boss David Moyes.

Emerson Palmieri was one of those eight new arrivals, joining the Hammers from Chelsea.
The 28-year-old joined West Ham for around £15 million. And despite a slow start to life at the London Stadium, he is now beginning to look like a very solid signing by Moyes…
Flynn Downes in awe of West Ham teammate
The Brentwood-born midfielder has really impressed his teammates and the fans when he has played for the Hammers this season.
Downes has been similarly impressed by one of his teammates.
The Hammers star raved about Emerson when speaking to WHUFC.com:

“You are really seeing his quality. He is a top player and a great guy as well. You can see what he is about, he has played for top clubs, and now he is doing it here. For a modern full-back, you have got to do everything. But he is that: he scores goals, he’s good at defending, and he’s good on the ball; what more could you want?”
Sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and admit that you were wrong. Emerson has been really good for West Ham in the last few games.
And his recent form has been a huge positive for the Hammers. David Moyes would have been delighted with the Italian’s performance against Chelsea on Saturday, and his last few displays in fact.
The ex-Chelsea left wing-back has been given us a totally different outlet to what we usually have when Aaron Cresswell plays down the left hand flank.
Flynn Downes praising Emerson proves how much of an impact he has had on the West Ham squad.
